Synopsis
Mi pequeña is a dance-theatre show for an unconventional space that adapts Constance Hurlé’s story Manaus, winner of the 1st Prize for micro-stories against gender violence awarded by Ribadavia Town Council in 2020. It explores, through poetry, dance and sound, the connections between the psyche, the body and violence.
The central theme is the narration of a rape, the memory of which will remain locked away in the recesses of the victim’s mind.
La actriz nos adentra en una íntima confesión donde quedan expuestas la crudeza del abuso y la fragilidad del cuerpo ultrajado a través de la metáfora y la dureza del relato directo, en segunda persona, dirigido al agresor.
The piece invites reflection on the everyday nature of gender violence and sexual abuse in intimate relationships, and on how these forms of violence leave their mark on the body, transforming and permeating it.
On stage we see the performer Constance accompanied by Diana Longa’s live sound composition.
Project description
This piece is an act of protest and denunciation through poetry and audiovisual imagery, using artistic expression as catharsis and a vehicle for social reflection. It collects a real testimony through which we show the suffering and anguish of being a victim of rape within one’s own relationship.
The first step in defending victims of gender-based violence is to give voice to their stories, and what better tool than performance, with its hybrid and contemporary language, to make us listen?
Sol and Constance work together on the encounter between image and word, each contributing a part of their own imagination, but always with a coherent aesthetic pursuit and a common driving force: the need to use art as a tool for change. In this case, the idea stems from Constance Hurlé’s text, which won an award in the competition for stories against gender violence (Ribadavia, 2020).
